ARTIST’S PROOF: THE BMW 3.0 CSL BY ALEXANDER CALDER AT THE NEUE NATIONALGALERIE IN BERLIN.

Alexander Calder launched the legendary BMW Art Car Collection in 1975 with his vision of a car as a kinetic work of art. An Artist’s Proof of the legendary BMW 3.0 CSL by Calder that has never been realised was shown to celebrate the reopening of the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin and the opening of the exhibition “Alexander Calder: Minimal / Maximal”. This marked two anniversaries at the same time: This year, the BMW Group is celebrating 50 years of cultural engagement, and also the BMW 3.0 CSL. In 1971, the car hit the road as a series version and epitomised the characteristics in its names: Coupé. Sport. Lightweight. The BMW 3.0 CSL competed as a works racer from 1973, and in the period up to 1979, it triumphed six times in the European Touring Car Championship alone. Today, it is still regarded as a supreme icon of BMW automobile history.

TWO DESIGN LEGENDS ON THE JOURNEY TO THE FUTURE: MINI STRIP BY PAUL SMITH.

Since November 2020, two legends of modern design have been engaging in a creative exchange for greater sustainability: Sir Paul Smith and MINI. This is already the second collaboration between the British brand and Sir Paul Smith, who has long ranked among the most famous designers of men’s fashion in the United Kingdom. At the end of the 1990s, he designed a limited special series of the classic Mini liveried in a shade of blue created by him and a one of one with paintwork in a typical multicoloured stripe design. The tailor-made MINI STRIP now being presented is the result of the current cooperation under the slogan “Simplicity, Transparency, Sustainability”. Smith gutted a three-door MINI Cooper SE and reduced the car to its structural essence. IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich finally provides an opportunity between 7 and 12 September 2021 to experience the sustainable custom special live at the MINI Pavilion at Munich’s Lenbachplatz.
