STORY OF THE WEEK
THE CRAZY MEETING OF THE “MAD MODS” IN LAS VEGAS.
Converting a classic BMW 325i into a mobile whirlpool is undoubtedly a matter of taste – but this is exactly what makes the British inventor and spannerhead Colin Furze into a YouTube star. In the Nevada Desert, he met up with a like-minded aficionado: Chris Willett, President of the Sin City BMW Club. Their adventures can be viewed in five exceptionally entertaining multimedia minutes. Just a taster: You can witness a kind of sand surfing behind a BMW 2002 converted to an off-road vehicle.

BIG IN JAPAN: WHERE THE CLASSIC MINI REALLY WAS A “CULT” CAR.
At the beginning of the 1990s, more units of the classic Mini were sold in Japan than in the United Kingdom. If the term “cult” applies anywhere, then it’s there. Interestingly, the classic Mini was regarded as a luxury car in Japan. Actually, this made quite a lot of sense, given the domestic production of small cars. Photos of the classic Mini against classic Japanese backdrops prove that in a mysterious way, they were a good fit.

GET YOUR KICKS – THE PLAYLIST FOR ROUTE 66 AND OTHER HIGHWAYS.
Route 66 goes right across the country from Chicago to California, and it’s more of a legend than a road, the stuff of dreams celebrated in a multitude of songs. The most famous song, “Get your kicks on Route 66”, is naturally a must on the playlist of all-time favourites and rock classics for long road trips selected by BMW. Tip: It can be played on the M5 or the B85.
