THE BMW M3 – THE HIGH-FLYER.

After ending its involvement in Formula 1, all eyes turned to touring car racing. In 1986 the first race-spec BMW M3 was born, sharing a clear stylistic lineage with the production car but incorporating flared wheel arches, a lightly modified outline and a rear spoiler to make it unmistakably different. It would become the most successful touring car of all time, with Italy’s Roberto Ravaglia piloting it to the World Touring Car Championship crown in 1987. And its sales performance was also pretty good too – 17,970 units good.
